William Jones & Mary Ann Sullivan

A LITTLE JONES & SULLIVAN HISTORY

Both of these lines came to Australia as Convicts.

William JONES arrived on the "Marquis of Wellington" on 27th January 1815, aged 26, after being convicted for life at the 'Old Bailey' on 12 Jan 1814 for stealing sheep. "The London Chronicle", 15 Jan 1814, 'Report from the Old Bailey' - William Jones was indicted for stealing a sheep, the property of W. Wynne in the neighborhood of Uxbridge about a mile distance from his house. GUILTY. Sentenced to death and commuted to transportation for Life.



Mary Ann SULLIVAN arrived on 20 May 1822 on the "Mary Ann I (2)" age 16, after being convicted for life in the 'Old Bailey' on the 24 October 1821 for assault & stealing. "The London Chronicle" 25 October 1821, 'Report from the Old Bailey' reported the following - 'Mary Ann Sullivan (and Mary Turner) was indicted for feloniously assaulting Lewis Baptiste in the Parish of St Mary-le-strand and taking 14sh & 6pence. GUILTY. Sentenced to Death with recommendation for mercy on account of her age, which was denied. Allegedly commuted to Transportation for Life'.
