DNA confirms there is ONE Thomas Graham Melrose (1806, Scotland - 1888, Michigan)

Excitement is immense here. This week we have a MAJOR DNA confirmation on the Melrose line.

Thomas Graham Melrose, my 4th great grandfather, who married Mary Anne Irvine is the very same
Thomas Graham Melrose that married Anna O'Neil in 1848, Motréal, Québec. Research shows that Anna is also known as Horrigan, Harrigan, Wilson and Willston.

This is confirmed with a triangulated match of a great grandson of Thomas Graham Melrose and Anna O'Neil to a great great grandson and great great great granddaughter of Thomas Graham Melrose and Mary Ann Irvine.

George Melrose & Jane Schofield

George Melrose was a Sapper & Miner with the Royal Engineers.

George MELROSE and Jane SCHOFIELD sailed from Plymouth, UK on 9 August 1852 and after being at sea for 122 days arrived in Tasmania, Australia on 9 December 1852. George was a Sapper & Miner of the Royal Engineers. Later the family moved to Sydney and George became a licensed Surveyor.

This maternal Melrose branch has been transplanted to Aussie soil for 7 generations so far.

This Melrose history is a collaboration of work compiled by Tim Carter, Susan Channell, Sandy Liddle, Peggy Lucas and myself.

Surname: Melrose DNA Study

As a family group we are interested in tracing our Melrose (and Schofield) origins especially as we have pretty much come to the end of the paper trail from the Australian end.

We are particularly interested to connect with descendants of Thomas Graham Melrose and Anna Horrigan/Harrigan located in Michigan and Canada who would be willing to take a DNA test to compare results.  With the objective to prove or disprove whether the two Thomas Graham Melrose's are indeed one and the same.

There are 5 descendants covering 3 separate lines of descent from the Australian branch of Melrose's via George Melrose & Jane Schofield that have taken autosomal/family finder DNA tests through 23andme to compare with.  We also have our results at Gedmatch.com.
