John JOHNSON and Elizabeth Smyth
The Johnson family were predominately based around Tamworth and Manilla in New South Wales. As you can see I have very little information on them, are you the person to help us out?Heather's mother died when she was a lass and she was sent to an orphanage, during her youth she had contact with her mother's family and has fond memories of them, more so than her father's family, which the Johnson's are.

DeleteJohn William JOHNSON married Jean DURRINGTON on October 2nd 1948 in the State of New South Wales (Balmain). John William JOHNSON's parents were John James JOHNSON and Jessie LANCASTER.
ReplyDeleteJean JOHNSON (nee DURRINGTON) died on December 12th 2005 at PENRITH New South Wales. Jean's place of burial at St Mary's Cemetery, St Mary's New South Wales. Jean JOHNSON (nee DURRINGTON) was born in Bundaberg Queensland.

DeleteHi, Alice Maude Johnson, who grew up in Woodsreef, born 1879 on the way TO Woodsreef from Windsor, is my great grandmother. Her father was James Johnson. Her mother's name was Charlotte, I think, who died in 1891. Alice was the first born of 4 girls. Eliza, who married John (Jack) Saunders, Rose and Charlotte, the youngest. I wish I knew something more of James Johnson. The details are so sketchy, I think he may have been a lawyer in Windsor before moving north (imagine that trek!!) I think he must have married again after the death of Alice's mother. My mother, Betty Alice, remembers her grandmother, Alice Maude, referring to the other 'Mrs Johnson' in not very nice terms. Alice moved to Daceyville (Sydney)in her 20s by herself as the head cook in a girls' boarding school, and married a Bill McGrath who'd come from Mudgee. They were divorced after a violent relationship and one son, who became the father of my mother.
