In 1841 there were three people onboard the 'New York Packet' which sailed into Sydney that would play a part in the Pinkerton Lineage. They were James PINKERTON, aged 23, a native of Derry, Ireland; Mary Ann POLLOCK, aged 21, and her younger sister Margaret POLLOCK, aged 18 both from Leckpatrick, Co. Tyrone, Ireland.
James appeared to have travelled out on his own undertaking as a Labourer and Mary Ann and Margaret whose callings were as Servants were brought out by a Mr John Miller under the protection of Mr Andrew Kerr and his wife.
Whether they knew each other before the voyage is not clear; but on 29 March 1842 James and Mary Ann were married at the Scotts Church in Pitt St, Sydney. They went on to have 8 children.
Margaret appears to have married John JOHNSON on 25th August 1847 at St Saviour's Church in the County of Argyle, NSW which is now known as Goulburn, NSW, Aus.
The paternal Pinkerton family, like the Lucas family has been living on Australian soil for 8 generations, so far!

I just came across your note. We moved house and changed email address about five years ago. Thanks for thinking about me but it turns out that I was on a wild goose chase. A son of Daniel declared on a certificate that his mother's maiden name was Margaret Pinkerton, but it turned out to PINKNEY.
